Hackart: Komiksy o Kobietach (Comics about Women)
2024
In June of 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in a day-long comic book hackathon organized by the In Connection foundation at the Museum of Comics in Krakow.
The aim of the project was to translate into a visual language, interesting stories, more or less known women from Polish history.
Together with the co-author of the script, Patryk Nędza we managed to show the story of a local character:
Katarzyna Skrzynska, known as Wlodkowa, is a „woman who played with robbery.” She lived in the 15th century in what is now Wadowice County. Together with her husband, Włodek Skrzynski of the Swan coat of arms, she commanded a group of „raubritters” - knights of robbery. She wielded a sword, crossbow and rode a horse better than most men. Many written documents and legends mention Wlodkowa’s prowess and cruelty; it is said that to this day her ghost appears on dark nights over the ruins of Barwald Castle. „Wlodkowa: Hands of God” is a miniature prologue or prototype of an idea for a series of adventures inspired by local history and the character of the highway-woman.
The comic pages, were part of two exhibitions in Krakow: in the Museum of Comics and at the Norwid Cultural Center.
